DIY Day Trip – Carter to Fort Benton

Are you looking to relax and navigate your own trip down river? This is the perfect package for you! Carter to Fort Benton is a 3-5-hour trip. The time you spend on the river depends on how much you paddle, weather and river levels. This section is full of beautiful cottonwood growth, islands, and working farmland. This trip allows you to enjoy your time on the Missouri River while you get accounted with paddling or floating.

Itinerary:

10:00 AM

We meet you at our storefront location (1856 Hwy 387, Fort Benton). At that point we will have you pay your balance, sign waivers, go over safety and paddle instructions. We will then caravan (5 minutes) to the cement ramp in town where you will end your trip.

10:45 AM

Carter Ferry (an old operating cable bridge.) this will be your last bathroom break. If you did not receive paddle directions in Fort Benton, you will receive them at Carter.

2:00-6:00 PM

Arrive at the Cement boat ramp in Fort Benton. Give us a call and we will come down and get the boats.

DIY Day Trip – Fort Benton to Wood Bottom

Fort Benton to Wood Bottom is in the Missouri River Breaks National Monument and includes Lewis and Clark campsites, lush cottonwood bottoms, steep river bluffs, thriving riparian habitat, and ample farmland. Fort Benton to Wood bottom is a 4-7-hour float trip. The time you spend on the river depends on how much you paddle, wind, and the river current. Fort Benton to Wood Bottom is better suited for those that are looking to paddle and be on the water longer. This section covers a lot of miles and is not as leisure of a float as Carter to Fort Benton.

Itinerary:

10:00 AM

We meet you at our storefront location (1856 Hwy 387, Fort Benton). At that point we will have you pay your balance, sign waivers, go over safety and paddle instructions. We will then caravan (20 minutes) to the wood bottom where you will end your trip.

10:45 AM

You will start your trip at the cement Boat ramp that is located across from Fort Benton’s old fort. Fort Benton will be your last bathroom break. At this time of arrival, you will receive your boats, paddles, lifejackets, seat back and dry bags. We will go over a brief 15-minute safety talk before you launch off and head down river.

3:00-7:00 PM

Nearing the end of the day, you will arrive at the Wood Bottom. Wood Bottom is a remote boat launch, campground and recreational sight. Once you are off the water, we ask that you call us ASAP so that we can retrieve our equipment.
