There is no defined age minimum of maximum. However, we do require that participants are able to swim on their own. We also require that guests are able to get in and out of canoes safely. All hikes have turn around points and no hikes are mandatory. If you are requesting to be in a guide boat, we need to know that at the time of your booking.
Trip members have the responsibility to select a trip appropriate to their abilities and interests. We are happy to discuss the trip with you if you have any questions or concerns. Trip members are held responsible for being in sufficiently good health to undertake the trip. Members are also responsible for studying all pre-departure information; for bringing the appropriate clothing and equipment as detailed therein and, for acting in a manner considerate of fellow group members.
Any person who is diabetic, epileptic, or asthmatic or has a history of heart trouble, is allergic to bee stings, or takes daily prescription drugs should include this information in their pre-trip questionnaire. Trip members will also alert their guide (s) of any medical history that could become a problem on the trip. People with a history of heart trouble, pregnant women, or any other potentially serious medical condition should consult their doctor before coming on a trip.
Flights – Arrival in Great Falls (GTF) – the day before your trip departs: If you are flying to Montana, we require arrival in the early afternoon the day before your trip departs. (Ex, if your trip starts on the 24th, you must arrive on the 23rd. If the last day of your trip is the 28th, your departure flight should be the 29th.) GTF is served by Delta, United, and Alaska Air. Flights arriving will be connecting through Denver, Salt Lake City, Minneapolis, Chicago, or Seattle. We realize the airline schedules can be tough, but we strongly encourage arrival in GTF by no later than 4pm.
We have a shuttle service to/from the airport to Fort Benton. We charge $125 one way per van (not passenger). We try to combine groups to lower the cost. If there is a group of 2 and a group of 3 the shuttle cost per person one way would be $25. We will be in contact with you prior to the trip to make sure we have shuttle aligned to the flight schedules. Please let us know ahead of time that you are in need of a shuttle to and from the airport.
Amtrak– Havre MT (HAV) Amtrak – the day before your trip departs: If you are taking the Amtrak to Montana, we require arrival in the early afternoon the day before your trip departs. (ex,. MRO provides all canoe/kayak specific gear, including boats, lifejackets, paddles, bow lines, canoe seat backs, and first- aid and safety equipment. Additionally, we provide all kitchen equipment for food preparation. MRO also provides all sleeping and camp equipment such as chairs, canvas wall tents, cots, sleeping bags (20 degree), pillows, pillow cases, tables, water station, firepans, bathroom system etc. Please refer to your general information packet for a thorough picklist.
At 6:15 P.M. the day before your trip departure we will be holding a meet and greet at the Grand Union Conference room. During this meeting we will be going over important details and it is highly recommended that you attend. At this meeting you will be receiving your Dry Bags and instructions for the following morning along with helpful tips and reminders.
The canoe portion of your trip will begin at 8:30 AM or 9:00 AM. Departure time is based on the meeting the night before.
We have unsecured parking at our storefront and warehouse location. If you have an RV, you are more than welcome to park their before and or after the trip. However, there are no hookups or amenities. We have plenty of space and can store your luggage and personal belongings in a secured building. MRO drivers will be at the takeout at 12:00. Ramps can be a really high traffic area and it is our goal to get off the ramp as quick as possible. When you arrive guides will direct you straight to lunch. While you are eating our crew loads everything up in an organized and methodical way so that you don’t have to worry about a thing. Once everyone is loaded in the vans enjoy the van ride back to civilization.
You can expect to be back in Fort Benton by 2:00-4:00 in the afternoon. Once you arrive, we will have your personal items waiting for you. Our staff will assist you on the unpacking/packing process at this point. Please double check to make sure you have not left anything behind. If you arranged a shuttle with us, we will go from the ramp to your desired location. Goodbye are always the hardest part.
We also offer to drive people’s vehicles to the takeout where they are there waiting for you. Vehicle shuttles are an extra charge and prices vary according to location.
We strongly recommend that you purchase a travel protection plan which can include a full trip refund should you cancel at any time for medical or health reasons. Coverage should also include medical evacuation, trip delay, and other elements.

Typical gratuity for a Guide runs about 10% to 20%. However, the decision is yours, and you should tip what you feel is appropriate.

If we are picking up boats at Kipp it varies depending on the dates you choose. If we have to take a special trip down there to grab boats it can be up to $50 per boat.

We will let you know how to conclude your trip and what to do with your rental gear and water crafts at the time of check-in. At some location we have locked storage containers and boat locks. At other locations we will be there to meet you at a designated time.
All vehicle shuttles require a $50 deposit to reserve your spot. Charter shuttles require a 50% down at the time of booking.
We accept payments via check, cash, and credit/debit card. All cards are subject to a 3% processing fee.
